Developing Beam, a Figma plugin that aims to bring the precision of code into the design workflow at Wise, highlighted many deficiencies in the dialogue between design and code. Even as our tools evolve, and with the rise in popularity of the design engineer discipline, there is still mostly a hard split between disciplines while creating software. Gusso will highlight how plugins can get design closer to the comfort that exists in the world of coding, so that we can channel our focus on taking the right types of risks.
It pays off to be as critical as engineers about you spend time. Engineers reevaluate boring tasks quickly, designers tend to accept tedium.
As engineering and design inches closer, designers don’t have the luxury of stopping at rectangles. But it’s becoming easier to overlap.
Repeatedly mocking up screens manually on your design tool can be a very large waste of time, especially as your company becomes larger.
Gusso is passionate about automating tedious tasks, so that we can all spend time doing things that matter or bring us joy. He currently works in the Design Systems team at Wise, where he creates tools to improve fidelity and speed when designing the product. Alongside this, he builds Figma plugins to help the wider design community, including Use Contrast and Propstar.
